Visiting different Seventh Day Adventist churches in Jamaica.

Landscape behind the church.

Smithfield Seventh Day Adventist Church. Just a few minutes before you get into Savanna-la-mar (if you’re coming from Ferris), inside the quiet community of Smithfield. Once you make that right turn off the main, you make the next right and you cant miss it.Its a small church as the pictures will tell, surrounded by sugar canes. You really get a “Country Fell” with this church but  never the less, “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18: 20.

Small churches love visitors, so feel free to make plans and give them a visit.

Footprints Seventh Day Adventist church. Housed in the auditorium of Savanna-La-Mar High school which is an adventist high school.  Footprints is right on the outskirts of Sav town, on the right, heading towards Frome, (you cant miss it). They always have rallies at Footprints, i’m guessing due to the space, inside and out. Its cool on the inside,  folks are friendly, and I worth stopping by and checking out when you’re in the area. I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story.

Music was in the air in the community of Orange where the Orange SDA church had there Music and Community Guest Day. The church interior was nicely decorated with colorful musical notes, and balloons.

Now because I took such a long time to complete this posting (Sorry), I misplaced my list of the songs that were performed on the day (double sorry), so in honor of Music, below is a link to a playlist of … unique gospel music, but are totally my favorites.

Enjoy!!

It was a bright and sunny day when I took off to try and find George’s Plain SDA church. I had only the clue that I should get into a Grange Hill Taxi and hope the driver knows where to stop. Well this driver had no idea where the church was, but believe me when I say, God wont let you get lost trying to find his church. As I was talking to the driver, passangers in the back heard the conversation and started to chip in with where they thought it was, and soon enough I made it (Praise the Lord).

It was a 2 minute walk from the main road, and after the first minute, I could hear the faint sound of singing which reassured me I was on the right track.

Who would have guessed the day would have ended with rain? I could have guessed it… and I did, but forgot to walk with my umbrella. So I sat in church and waited, was entertained with conversation by the church’s A.Y leader (who probably would rather not to be named), then snagged a few pics (cant believe it was so few)…

A good Sabbath morning over all, and I’ll definitely walk away with the thought of how together the church members are. There was a mini lake across the road that basically, nobody caan cross it, unless they had a swimming bus, or a bicycle, and I remember one old man willing to make a few trips to carry people across the water. Now if that’s not brotherly love, I don’t know what is..

(I took a taxi across by the way)

Truro SDA (Westmoreland)

My next hop was to Truro Seventh Day Adventist Church which is situated a few minutes drive beyond Frome High School in the direction of Coote Savanna.  Another small church in a seemingly quiet community and is not far off the main road.

Hopewell SDA (Hanover)

Church Hopping broke away from Westmoreland for a bit to visit Hopewell Seventh Day Adventist church in Hanover with good company.  Its a bit of a walk off the main (up a hill) but when you get there, you get a wonderful view of the sea. Surrounded by houses, and trees, Hopewell SDA church is in a quiet and cool community. The members are welcoming (as most Adventist members are) and the atmosphere was one quite fitting for worship and reflection. You can browse a few pictures below.

Enjoy!!

More than likely the very first church I visited when I started living in Savanna-La-Mar, (cause its a stone throw away from where I live) and yet, I’m just making a post. Once again, this will just be photos of the church. This church can be found in the very heart of Sav town (next to KFC). No worries though, KFC scents don’t distract the congregation. One of the more lively churches in Westmoreland, with a solid # of members. I have memories of visiting this church with my dad and sister years ago. I def remembered KFC being next door and the color of the walls.

Howdy!!!

Been a while since I’ve made a post. This post is dedicated to New Hope SDA church, which was the second church I visited since moving to Savanna-La-Mar, but had to revisit since this church hopping idea was born after that visit. Unfortunately, I will only be able to post pictures, so enjoy the photos.

Its always a good feeling to be back home. The warm smiles, hugs, and the many “long time no see, I missed you” is a thing to enjoy. I’m no stranger, I’m family, and I love it. Everyone should have a church family, multiple if possible, but at least one that will open their arms and embrace you.

Today was Communion service, and now that I think about it, it was perfect timing, because I didnt take part in Sheffields Communion service, and its been a while. The music as usual was top class, Bro. Burke is really doing well with the choir, and Pastor Carter was charming and on point as always which is always a good thing to experience.

Scripture Reading:

Hosea 1: 9-10

9Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.

10Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
